I have a secret

Shhh. Come a little closer and I’ll tell you.

Closer.

Come on, what are you afraid of me?

psst psssst pstpsst pst

What is that?

You can’t hear me?

Ok, then, I’ll say it louder.

I FINISHED THE FIRST DRAFT OF MY NOVEL TODAY!!!!* **

*I really did. It’s very much a first draft. In fact, I’m going to do a deep edit before I set it aside for a couple of months and do another deep edit. But it’s done. I did it! I wrote a real, live novel! Can we have a party now? Please?!!??

**Thanks for praying for me. My back is better. Not all better, but some better. And did you hear? I finished my novel today!

  1. Apparently the post about how I hurt my back didn’t post. That’s what happens when you write 1) in pain and 2) on drugs. Now, boys and girls, you see what drugs do to your brain.

  2. that explains it. when you made that statement about your back i thought maybe i was the one on too many drugs. if it makes you feel any better, every writer i know has back issues. (too much sitting and listening to the voices in your head rather than the voices in your body.)

hey, you’re my new hero. so amazing on your first draft sarah. you must feel so excited. hmmmm…how to party long distance? lots of virtual hugs and virtual toasts and virtual squeals for sure. not ideal, but deeply heartfelt.

  3. you finished your NOVEL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

all that can be said to that is: HUZZAH!!!!!!

dude, you rock. you are a hero in my book because this is HARD.WORK.GOSH.DARN.IT.

so proud of you, dear friend. are you going out to celebrate? oh wait, that’s right. you’re hopped up on painkiller drugs. but hey, that would make for one greeeeaat partay, no?

  4. Terri–yeah…sorry for the confusion…they changed my WordPress interface and the button that used to be “publish” is now “save,” which apparently means it doesn’t publish πŸ˜‰ And thanks for the virtual party–between the back pain and the…letdown, I guess…Dave and I celebrated a little but not a ton.

Christianne–thanks πŸ˜‰ Actually, Dave and I shared part of a bottle of wine and just sat and talked for a while, which was probably the most party I was up for. I think I’m feeling a post-novel letdown…and a little bit of fear of what’s next. Though I guess that’s nothing new. I mean, there was a time when I didn’t know how to write a novel, if I could do it, how to start, etc., and then I learned what works for me. Now I feel the same way about revising. Writing…truly a task that never ends πŸ˜‰

Take it slow…I’ve got to just take it slow.

  5. Why, how marvelous. : ) [throwing confetti]

  6. This is so cool!

And its really great to have you back. Its so depressing being in gmail and seeing the status under your name saying “I’m busy”. As in go away don’t bug me. 😦 So I’m way happy to see you back and hoping you get the back sorted and get the deep edits (whatever they are πŸ˜‰ ) out the way.

I don’t write, couldn’t write a novel if I had to, so I’m way impressed.

  7. Laura–I love confetti πŸ˜‰ I’ve always thought a ticker-tape parade once of the best celebrations EVER.

Dean–Thanks…and you can chat me when it says “busy”…just know that if I don’t respond, that description is accurate (sometimes I forget to change it πŸ˜‰ )

  8. WOW! Congratulations. I so admire people who can write an entire book…I can’t even finish my stinkin’ school paper. Good job, Sarah!

  9. Thanks, Chloe. I went back to it yesterday and thought “this needs SO MUCH WORK!” But I keep reminding myself that the fact that it exists at all isn’t a small thing.

  10. Tammy

    You go girl!
Forgive me i am behind on blogging. I have been, God only knows where i have been. Traveling through the universe i think. Without myself, if that makes any sense. Probably it does not. Anyway, i am proud of my aspiring novelist friend Sarah.

  11. Tammy–thanks so much πŸ˜‰
